What does it mean to be an Ambassador?

We take great pride in our region. Being a Hunter Ambassador is as easy as talking about what a great place the Hunter is to live and work in, whenever you have the opportunity. No-one who lives here needs to be convinced.....but we aim to take that message to the world.

Being a Hunter Ambassador isn't a formal role and it doesn't have any strict requirements. It's simply about being positive about the region and proud of its achievements.

Below are some facts you may not know:

• The Port of Newcastle is the largest coal export port in the world

• The Hunter is a major centre for medical research & bio technology excellence

• We have over 120,000 businesses

• There are 25,500 manufacturing jobs across the region

• The Hunter’s surfing industry is worth $36.5 million per year

• 40 million bottles of world class wine are produced annually

• The Hunter generates 80% of the states electricity

• The coal industry is worth $5 billion per year

• Over 4 million tourists visit our region each year

• The agriculture industry is worth $1 billion annually

• The equine capital of the nation is Scone and its surrounds

• The health industry is the region’s largest employer industry with HunterHealth employing over 7,000 full time staff

• The Hunter has a higher rate of home ownership than the NSW average
